Becoming a Wheels Of Fire Club Member --
How To Do It and What You Receive

Joining the Club is very easy to do and you get a lot in return.

To Join:
1. Print out the "Membership Application" form below.
PLEASE, read the "Basic Printing Instructions" carefully!
2. Fill out the application.
3. Include    $ 20    in US funds.
This covers everyone in your household/residence.
4. Mail the completed application and funds to the address listed on the form.

That's it!

What You Get:
1. Club membership for you and everyone in your household for 1 year.
The "1 year" begins with the month that your application is accepted.
2. The currently available Club Car.
Right now it's our 2001 Club Car which is a customized blisterpacked purple and black Tail Dragger.
3. A 'numbered' Club Pin.
Design is a purple '55 Nomad (our first Club Car) with red highlights, black windows & front grille, teal flame on the side coming 'out' from the front wheel, and 'gold' 5-spoke wheels. The car is on top of the Wheels Of Fire flame logo with a 'gold' "96" (the year our Club was founded) where the HW 'sawblade' logo would normally be. On the pin back is "Limited Edition -- 1 of 300". (Supply is almost depleted, pins that are not numbered will be issued when the numbered pins are gone.) To see what the pin looks like, click on the "Club Items For Sale" link.
4. Name badge for everyone listed on the Application.
Badge is laminated and 'hangs' on a clip. The design features the same picture as the new Wheels Of Fire tee shirt in full color with the member's name in black.
5. The Club's monthly newsletter mailed to you.
It is mailed the week one week before the Club meeting. This way, the newsletter also acts as a reminder for the upcoming Club meeting.
6. Discussion & voting rights at any Club meeting.
Wheels Of Fire meets the fourth Saturday (at 6pm) of every month (except for November & December, then it's usually the third Saturday).
7. The right to attend any Board meeting and to discuss issues.
The Board meets at 3pm the day of the general meeting. The Board does not make decisions for the club, it presents most items to Club members (at the next Club meeting) for additional discussion & a vote. It's the members who run the Club (majority rule); the elected Officers & Board members only work out the details.
8. The opportunity to run for any Office or Board position.
Nominations are at the May Club meeting with voting occurring at the June Club meeting. Elections are yearly with the results announced at the June meeting.
9. Free coloring contest for children 12 and younger at every Club meeting.
There are three age divisions and every child who participates gets to pick a loose HW vehicle from the Club's supply.
10. Door prizes for adults and children.
Tickets are given out when admittance fee is paid.
11. Free table to sell HWs at Club meetings.
Non-members can buy, but not sell.
12. The privilege to bring in HW stuff and carry it around to sell/trade at Club meetings.
13. Free admission to the Club's annual picnic.
The picnic is held in either April or May at a local park on a weekend day (11am - 5pm) different from either a Board or Club meeting day. There are also fun activities for all ages and, usually, some kind of HW car 'show'/competition.
14. Lower prices, when possible, on HW and Club items from some Club members at shows.
15. Other perks that vary from Club meeting to Club meeting.

Not bad, huh?

Of course, there's a small catch.
(You kind of knew there had to be one, didn't you?)

There's a    $ 2    admittance fee per person age 13 and over to get into any Club meeting.
Visitors/Guests get in one time for free.
But don't forget the Door Prize ticket (#10 above) you get when you pay. All prizes are HW items.

There may be other things that might have you digging in your pockets:
1. Raffle tickets at    $ 1    each that give you a chance to win, most of the time, a Limited HW item.
Some raffle monies go directly to Ronald McDonald House, one of the charities the Club donates to.
2. Monthly racing is    $ 2    per vehicle or    $ 5    for three vehicles.
First Place gets 50% of the race money collected, Second Place gets 25%, and Third Place gets to race one vehicle at the next Club meeting for free. The club keeps the remaining 25%.
3. Soda pop is available.
4. "Mystery Toy Box" tickets are    $ 2    each.
The 'Box' appears about every third Club meeting. Inside are brown-bagged blisterpacked Redlines, Treasure Hunts, Limiteds, Exclusives, First Editions, mainlines, McD's, and older/other HW vehicles along with a surprise. It's a 'Mystery' what you get until you open the bag!
5. What you buy from others.

And that covers it!

  Why All The 'Fees'?
After reading all of the above, you may be wondering why there are as many 'fees'/costs as there are for a non-profit club like Wheels Of Fire.
Well, here's why.
Though we are lucky enough to find and get some things donated or for free, there are still many things which Wheels Of Fire must pay for. We have to cover the costs of: Rent for our meeting place; Supplies for making name badges; Maintenance on the badge making (laminating) machine or cost of a new one; Production of the Club Cars and their packaging; Production of the Club Pin; Printing and mailing the newsletter; Printing Club flyers and basic paperwork; Buying needed supplies; Buying food and beverages for Club meetings and picnic; Buying items for Door Prizes, Raffles, and Mystery Toy Box; Buying ticket supplies for those three, and possibly other, events where tickets are needed; Buying items for contest prizes; Providing cash prizes for the races; Having a Club table at shows; Reserving picnic area, tables, and cooking equipment at a local park for our annual Club Picnic; and, Club donations to charities.
All of this amounts to a yearly minimum expenditure of   $ 7,000   just for Wheels OF Fire to exist!
Obviously, we think it's worth it to have the kind of Club that we have and we hope that you do too.

Membership Application Form
Basic Printing Instructions

There are three ways for you to print out the following Application.
Please read through each method thoroughly before you choose a way.

1. While looking at this page, click on the Print or Printer icon in your browser's tool bar then click on the "OK" or "Print" button.
The Application Form will cover about the last three pages printed.
Once the printing is done, cut off any part above the Application Form that got printed with the rest of the "About Club Membership" pages (if this occurred).
Now you're ready to fiil out the Application and mail it in (along with Club dues, of course).
This is the easiest way to print the Form but it 'wastes' paper.
2. While looking at this page, use your 'mouse' to highlight everything from the boxed "Wheels Of Fire" down to the 'bar' at the end of the Form. Now click on the Print or Printer icon in your browser's tool bar then click on the "OK" or "Print" button.
Some printer software may ask or let you choose 'exactly' what you want to print after you click on the icon. If yours does, choose the "Selected Text" or "Highlighted Text" option; then click on the "OK" or "Print" button.
This will print out about three pages.
Depending on your browser &/or printer, this method may not work.
This is the next easiest way to print the Form and it 'saves' paper.
If this way works, you're now ready to fill out the Form and mail it in (along with Club dues, of course).
3. While looking at this page, click on the Print or Printer icon in your browser's tool bar. If your printer software lets you select which pages or page range you want to print, choose that option and fill in the Page Range with "5" to "7". Now click on the "OK" or "Print" button.
This will print out about three pages.
Depending on your browser &/or printer, this method may not work.
This is the 'hardest' way to print the Form but it 'saves' paper.
If this way works, you may have to cut a little off the top, then you'll be ready to fill out the Form and mail it in (along with Club dues, of course).
